The Women's Endowment Fund of the Akron Community Foundation announced awards totaling $52,000 to nine non-profits in the Akron area.  Community Legal Aid's HEAL program received $8,000 to support it's work with Summa Women's Health Center.

 

From The Akron Beacon Journal, February 29, 2012:

AKRON - The Women’s Endowment Fund of the Akron Community Foundation has awarded $52,000 to nine Summit County nonprofit organizations.

The awards, made Feb. 24, pushed the fund’s lifetime awards over the $500,000 mark.

In a news release announcing the awards, the Women’s Endowment Fund said priority went to programs addressing health and wellness, safety from violence and economic empowerment for local women and girls.

Recipients were:

• Battered Women’s Shelter, $5,000 for the Tina Project, which works to prevent teen dating violence.

•  Community Legal Aid Services, $8,000 for the HEAL Program at Summa Women’s Health Center, which helps patients address nonmedical barriers to improving their health.
