Justice Rocks!
On May 1 Jammin’ for Justice rocked Musica in downtown Akron as local bands, each with at least one attorney member, battled to be named the winner of the event and to promote and raise money for pro bono work. Supporters of Community Legal Aid, the Akron Bar Foundation and music lovers gathered to cheer on competitors Chapter 11, Undercover, Roxxymoron and Melanie & the Jam Boyz. The bands gave it all they had, and the showdown between first place band Melanie & the Jam Boyz and Roxxymoron brought down the house.

The event, in it’s third year, raised over $9,000 to support the pro bono efforts of Legal Aid and the Akron Bar Foundation. Event attendees battled it out at the raffle table for the chance to win fabulous prizes including a trip to Las Vegas, tickets to the Indians, NASCAR tickets and a rock ‘n’ roll trip to Cleveland and Fender guitar. Generous local firms and companies sponsored the event, and several local restaurants provided in-kind donations.
“Jammin’ for Justice is a great example of the community coming together to support access to justice for our most vulnerable community members,” says Legal Aid Executive Director Sara Strattan. “On behalf of Legal Aid staff, the Board and our clients I thank the bands, sponsors, volunteers and attendees for their contributions and commitment to the spirit of pro bono.”
