Information Technology Manager - Akron, OH: Position 1302PrintE-mailPDF

Community Legal Aid Services is the primary provider of free civil legal representation to low-income and elderly residents of central northeast Ohio. Our mission is to serve the poor by securing justice, protecting rights, promoting measures for their assistance and providing quality representation.

Job Description:
The Information Technology Manager will supervise other information technology staff members and oversee the development, implementation, and use of technology throughout the organization, working closely with advocacy staff to assess and address user and law practice needs.  Areas of responsibility include the full range of information systems and telecommunications activities, including determining user requirements, recommending practical solutions, and leading organization-wide efforts to improve the effective use of technology. This position will supervise other IT staff members.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, Develop and manage IT staff to meet the changing needs of users, groups and offices; new projects and technologies; and varying staff strengths.  
  • Work with advocacy staff to develop strategies and plans to enhance client services, improve user effectiveness, and foster innovation.
  • Develop and maintain existing web-based case management system.
  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, telephones, software applications, and peripherals. 
  • Provide expertise and support during systems upgrades, installations, conversions and file maintenance.  
  • Oversee systems development and enhancement and the integration of new systems with existing systems. 
  • Communicate regularly with management and all users of information services and systems.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and best practices, including providing written protocols and guidance to IT staff and to end-users. 
  • Ensure the creation and maintenance of all written documentation, including system and user manuals, license agreements, and documentation of modifications and upgrades. 
  • Oversee provision of end-user services, including help desk and technical support services. 
  • Keep current with the latest technologies and determine what new technology solutions and implementations will meet business and system requirements. 
  • Manage financial aspects of the IT unit, including purchasing, budgeting, and budget review. 
  • Develop and implement all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision. 
  • Manage servers, security solutions, network hardware and equipment. 
  • Manage telecommunications infrastructure and development plans, projects, policies and procedures. 
  • Negotiate and administer vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements. 
  • Support Legal Aid’s overall mission and follow all standards, policies, procedures, and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Collaborate on reporting functions, when IT intervention is necessary
  • Oversee and manage the public website and intranet.


Job Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent education and experience, along with advanced technical or managerial credentials preferred
  • Experience with Google Apps, VMware, Windows Server 2008, Citrix, Linux, Apache, PHP, HTML, JavaScript and AJAX preferred
  • Five or more years of progressive IT experience, including experience in a multi-office environment
  • Experience in working with non-profits and/or legal services organizations preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of technical staff, to work with the Executive Management of an organization and to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines, to conduct and direct research into IT issues and products, and to take initiative in the development and completion of projects
  • Strong supervisory, project management, organizational, and time management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and evaluative skills.

    Paralegal I - Akron Office - #1301PrintE-mailPDF

    Job Description:

    The Paralegal I will, under the supervision of the Office Manager, assist in the provision of comprehensive, high quality legal services to eligible clients in civil cases in accordance with organizational policies and the Ohio Rules of Professional Conduct.  Although the Paralegal I will be called upon to provide support in a wide variety of civil cases, it is expected that in the first year or more of employment, the job will mostly involve assisting attorneys with the processing of loan modifications for homeowners at risk of foreclosure.  The Paralegal I will also perform other duties as required.

    Job Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated interest in and sensitivity to the legal needs of the poor as well as motivation to improve the condition of the poor.
    • Professional attitude, ability to relate to professionals, excellent interpersonal skills, dependability, and a high desire to contribute to an effective and collaborative work environment.
    • Strong working knowledge of HAMP and other lender in-house loan modification programs, as well as a thorough understanding of the mortgage lending process and short sales.  Prior experience in the mortgage lending industry is high desirable.
    • Independent worker with excellent analytical and organizational skills as well as the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Mathematical ability to understand implications of loan modification proposals and to recommend most successful approach to various lenders.
    • Excellent oral and written skills,
    • Thorough working knowledge of all computer programs and office machines used by the firm and ability to learn new programs and machines as required.
    • Ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable.
