Bankruptcy Basics

Dating Violence and Healthy Relationships

Presented to high school students along with domestic violence advocates.

Decisions Classes

Includes employment and unemployment including the Family and Medical Leave Act, what to watch for in renting a home or buying a used car, landlord/ tenant rights and responsibilities, pay day lending and other consumer and debt issues, Social Security and SSI benefits, and how to obtain a criminal record expungement.

Domestic Violence and Stalking and Sexually Oriented Offenses Basics

Financial Information and Legal Education

This popular program runs approximately one hour and covers a variety of topics including understanding and improving credit scores, driver’s license reinstatement, expungements, and identity theft. Time for questions is available.

A handout package is provided to each attendee that includes information about the above topics, as well as an online resources and information page. Each attendee also receives a pen and general information about Legal Aid and how to request help.

Foreclosure Fundamentals

Includes explanation of lawsuit, legal process, how to decide whether to stay or move, when not to move, relevance of bankruptcy, rescue scams, and when and how to access various community resources.

Introduction to Legal Aid Services

Provides an overview of Community Legal Aid’s services to clients and the community, and how to access those services.

Landlord / Tenant Law

Includes information on subsidized housing, rental agreements, security deposit returns, rent escrow, etc. A variation of this program which includes general principles of Ohio landlord / tenant law including 30 day notices, recovering security deposits, rent receipts and the problems with landlord / tenant side deals is offered in cooperation with local housing authorities in Portage, Stark, Summit and Trumbull Counties.

Litigation Boot Camp

Designed to assist social workers who work with lawyers it covers topics such as client confidentiality, responding to discover and participating in litigation.

Low Income Taxpayer Information

Includes information about the earned income tax credit, filing requirements, tax controversies and the availability of community resources for free income tax preparation

Senior Legal Toolkit

Includes information on wills, powers of attorney, durable powers of attorney for health care purposes and the probate process

What is Legal Aid and How to Access Services

Covers the basics about Community Legal Aid.
